Becoming one of the most desired countries to visit, South Korea has a very rich and preserved culture while modernization and technology are making its way to the top. The increasing popularity of its K-Pop world and phenomena, South Korea is consistently being highlighted as one of the many gems in the world.
Undeniably speaking, South Korea has been one of my dream vacation and finally, I have put this on reality. Priceless adventures that are filled with curiosity and familiarity. With all the sceneries that I have imagined, all of them were pictured in front of my eyes. An amazing experience that is surely worthy to be kept, forever.
A dream vacation!
I visualized my dream, escaping to reality but setting my foot for what is true and the usual daily living of locals. We tried as much as possible to explore one area to another area, discovering the stories beneath each palace and appreciate deeply the breathtaking sceneries of the city landscapes, building structures and the majestic and astonishing colors of Autumn.
We chased Autumn and danced with the leaves as they fall down to the ground. Catching them was one of the thrilling part, remember Eun Tak catching maple leaf? That’s how it goes. An amazing country that offers a lot of free things to do, magnificent places to visit and surprisingly won’t hurt your pocket!
Keep an eye on every airline’s seat sale and promotions. The best way to be updated about seat sales is to subscribe to all airlines’ email subscription and be a member of their program. Since we are coming all the way from Qatar, the prices from our origin to SoKor is expensive so we have to consider going to the Philippines first, then fly to SoKor. (We were able to visit our families in Php too! Hitting two birds with one stone! lol)
For us to be able to save money, we booked our tickets to Philippine Airlines (Doha-Manila), then Cebu Pacific (Manila-Korea). It was a pretty good deal for me and Mr. Lucky.
With the current political status of Doha’s blockage, the only airlines that fly to South Korea is Qatar Airways on a daily basis. While the Philippines has a lot of Airlines that you can choose from such as Air Asia, Asiana Airlines, Korean Air, Hahn Air, Cathay Pacific Airways, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific.
For Philippine Passport holders, we are required to apply for a visa to South Korea. Recently, news all over the internet shocked the Filipino community about it’s free visa to Filipino citizens. Although, I do not want to break your desire of having a free visa to SoKor, here’s the complete deal:

It is visa-free for Filipino in line with the celebration of Winter Olympics until April 2018 ONLY if your point of entry is Yangyang Airport located in Gangwon Province. Hence, there are no direct flights from the Philippines unless you want to fly first to Japan (Kitakyushu) or Russia (Khabarovsk, Vladivostok) to reach Gangwon Province. So it’s up to you.
Guesthouses in this country are affordable. In fact, there are hostels you can find at a regular rate of 11 USD, a dormitory type with breakfast. The chances of meeting new people and gain friends are really awesome when you consider budget hostels. If you have saved money for your accommodation, you can go to hotels that cost 50 USD and more. Certainly, you get a private room and the comfort that you pays for.
In our case, we got lucky on finding Neo Seoul Guesthouse considering a friendly budget and the need to have a private room and comfort. It’s close to the public transportation stations and has a lot of food stalls around the area. We scored it in Booking.com for around 300 USD for 8 nights with breakfast.
Getting around the city of Seoul and to its nearby places are so much easy because of their extensive network of subway, bus routes, and taxis. The most efficient is the subway. I highly recommend downloading an offline subway map in android or app store for easy reference to the places you intend to visit.
We purchased our Tmoney card at the airport and load it with 50,000 KRW each for the whole trip. The card can also be used also in different convenient stores, bus, and taxis. Trains run non-stop starting at 5:30am until midnight. If ever you find yourself late for it, you can use uber too as it also works in Seoul!
With careful plannings and visualization on what are the places I wanted to visit, I primarily rely on Instagram feeds featuring beautiful landscapes in Seoul and it’s nearby area. I planned it to be laid back travel, an easy, romantic and relaxed trip as I hoped for. I also consider visiting heritage sites and Unesco places then moving towards the scenic view of Seoul City and plenty of shopping activities and food trips to do. That one, I got successful at it!
I honestly have a different and ideal itinerary for this. Apparently, truth be told, I got tired of walking and walking on the first 3 days and from that, we re-shuffled our itinerary and excluded some places that will require extra effort of walking. lol
So here’s a simple overview of the places we went during our Autumn in Seoul.
My life-saver website, Imagine Your Korea really helps me a lot in planning our travel route. I was able to come up with complete details of each address, fees, timings, and directions how to reach each spot by means of their public transportations. In between locations, you can grab a food or coffee wherever you want, so it’s basically up to you which time do you like to take your lunch or dinner.

It was my dream vacation. And I am so thankful we did it.
It was magical and every minute spent is overwhelming. With the presence of autumn colors, cold breeze air and scenic spots. I can not deny that I fell in love with Seoul.
